read more catching up, volume 2! august 26, 2018 uncategorized 1 comment hey guys, it’s naru, doing another edition of catching up, and i’d like to start by recognizing two new followers, sheilareneeparker and thepersonalityabyss, both of whom joined this week, and are respectively numbers 130 and 131. thank you both for joining, and i hope you enjoy my content going forward. so i’m a pretty big stephen king fan… yeah, i know, big surprise, he’s like the most famous living author in the world… and i just finished my fiftieth book of his last night at work. the book in question was lisey’s story, which is about a middle aged widow who sort of inherited a curse from her late husband, and has to unlock a lot of buried memories of their time together in order to both deal with said curse and battle his biggest stan(short for stalker fan, if you didn’t know) who thinks she might be hiding some of his unpublished work. yeah, of course, her husband was a troubled author. it’s not one of his best books, but it’s still one of the better ones, and i like that it had some dark tower connections. i started playing horizon zero dawn, because it was on sale in the playstation store, and it’s a lot of fun, but of course hunting robot dinosaurs is going to be fun. i keep telling myself “okay, i’ll do this one more thing, and then i’ll put it down for the day,” but of course i just keep playing. you get to unlock abilities with your progress, and the combination of lure call and silent kill is a broken tactic if i ever saw one. i’ve been abusing it, frankly. as far as the anime i watched this week, well, since i wasn’t on vacation, i only really watched two shows, outside of my review-related activities anyway. ajin: this is a netflix horror anime, but i still bought it on dvd from a recent sentai filmworks sale, and i’ll be blunt, it’s pretty bad. i can tolerate the animation, but it’s basically all style and no substance, and there’s really nothing special about that style. also, the main character starts off as a bland wet sock, and when they finally do give him a personality, he’s a complete asshole. there was a movie packaged with the dvd, and when i saw that, i remember thinking “i’ll bet it’s just a condensed retelling of the series.” who called it? i called it. it was undubbed, which is weird, because i don’t think they even bothered reanimating the footage, so they could have just copied and pasted the dub from the series directly onto the movie’s footage just fine. aria,the animation: i was recommended this show by a few people, and yeah, it’s pretty good. it’s about a colony onaqua, a planet that used to be mars until they mined enough water from under the surface to create a major ocean(don’t ask too many questions about that), and it follows the lives of a handful of undines, or gondola operators in an italian-based city. i didn’t hate it, but it got kind of boring at times, and i never really felt pulled in. it could be funny, especially in the first episode, but i didn’t get enough out of it to continue onto the second season. i get the appeal, though. having said all that… well, i’d answer some questions, but once again, there are none to be found. come on guys, give me something to work with, here. should i do something like the alphabet challenge? like, should i include a section in these posts, each week, where i pick an anime i haven’t reviewed yet that corresponds with that letter of the alphabet, and give my thoughts on it? is that something you’d be interested in? taiyang: i… i don’t… i’m sorry, i don’t think i’m qualified to answer that. have you tried talking to your sister? ruby: mm… i really don’t think she’s qualified either. taiyang: oh come on. you two are so close. you can talk to her about anything. ruby: yeah, but… how should i put this… yang’s a really popular flower. catching up, vol. 1 august 19, 2018 ramblings! 2 comments hey guys, it’s naru, and as i alluded last week, i’m going to start doing something different today. every sunday, from now until whenever i feel like stopping, i’m going to sit down and start writing free-style. i’ll do a short journal-style post to talk about my week, the things i’ve seen that week, and whatever else i feel like, and at the end, i’ll answer any questions that you guys have for me. well, that was the idea, but nobody asked any questions in the last week, so i guess i’ll just put a pin in that until next week. as i said before, i’ll take any questions, related to anything you want, personal or otherwise. anyway, i think i’ll start off by telling you guys that, for a moment this week, i was scared that i wouldn’t be able to post anything this weekend, because on thursday night my internet started failing. it turned out to be an issue with my wifi router, which finally shat the bed after years of service. it was so busted that if i tried the whole “unplug, wait fifteen seconds and plug back in thing” that you’re always told to do, it would work again, but shut off again about five minutes later. i had to buy a new one for about thirty bucks, but everything’s cool now. it probably overheated or something, because i normally turn it off while i’m asleep or at work, but i had just come off a fifteen day vacation where i had it on non-stop. hey, speaking of which, i had a long-ass vacation
